Black Currant Extract Powder

The blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum) is a woody shrub in the family Grossulariaceae grown for its piquant berries. It is native to temperate parts of central and northern Europe and northern Asia where it prefers damp fertile soils and is widely cultivated both commercially and domestically. It is winter hardy but cold weather at flowering time during the spring reduces the size of the crop.

Black currant extract is a collection of crude mixtures extracted from fruit of Ribes nigrum L.. In other words, black currant extract is a concentrated mixture made by extracting (or ''pulling'') black currant's chemical constituents out of the inert plant fiber (cellulose) with a solution of grain alcohol and water. Good black currant extract should optimally preserve the aroma, taste and biological activity of black currant from which it is made.
