Description:

Maitake is an edible mushroom from the species Grifola frondosa.  It has a large fruiting body and overlapping caps. Maitake is increasingly being recognized as a potent source of polysaccharide compounds with dramatic health-promoting potential. Maitake mushrooms primarily grow in the northeastern parts of Japan and the United States, and are credited by traditional Chinese medicine to be able to fight disease and improve immunity.
